About me

Image of Silvia Ferrero Spanish Translator and Interpreter in Manchester Specialised in VideogamesI am a translator and interpreter working from English into Spanish. I hold an MA in Translating from the University of Salford and a BA in English Studies from the University of Zaragoza (Spain), with French and German. In addition, I completed a course on Audiovisual Translation at the University of Salford. Since 2002, I have provided my services in fields such as software and website localisation, tourism, environment, business, marketing and advertising. My clients include some of the best translation companies and well-known multinational companies.

My main specialisation lies in the field of videogames localisation; throughout my career, I have collaborated as a translator, editor and QA specialist in countless titles for all platforms (PS2, PSP, PS3, Wii, Xbox, PC, iPhone, etc.) and even worked 5 years in-house for one of the industry leaders, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. In addition, I run my own games localisation company, MediaLoc.

I am very active in the language community and currently hold the position of Chair of the North-West Translators’ Network. I am extremely interested in raising the profile of the industry and often speak at universities and conferences and publish material, more on which can be found here.

I am very passionate about my job and have been known to be extremely meticulous. I am a born perfectionist and my clients are very appreciative of my attention to detail, which goes from the linguistic nuances to the perfect formatting of the document. After all, translation is much more than substituting words for words, it is an art that involves getting a message across whilst bridging the cultural, contextual and linguistic gap. My favourite translations are those that involve a high level of creativity on the part of the translator, such as fantasy RPG games, advertising campaigns and marketing literature. They might be more complicated, but they are much more rewarding, and great fun as well!

I also love learning new things. Throughout the years, I have acquired experience in other aspects of the industry, such as project management, transcription and language consulting. I also happily accept challenging translations that will help me better my skills and learn about a particular subject area, provided I am sure I can deliver the required results, and I have been known to teach myself how to use many different types of software. When I’m not translating, you can probably catch me reading, playing games, watching movies, cooking, dancing or even travelling if I’m lucky enough to get some time off!
